"My pain is your pain, even though I am old and you are young" said an old man to the young troubadour, newblues singer and pianist from Berlin, when he heard him performing in Paris.

Maxim Vaga unites the contrasts. In his voice we hear anger and kindness, sadness and joy, all at the same time. Mysterious and free, broken and yet clear – his lyrics are of dreamlike complexity as they only hint at the stories that created them.

Once driven by his love of film, Maxim Vaga worked in movie and theatre productions. He met Patti Smith on the set of Christoph Schlingensief's The Animatograph, and she reminded him of his other great passion, music. Shortly after, he embarked on a long journey through Greece, where he started to write and perform his own songs.

This was followed by concerts in New York, Montreal, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and his hometown Berlin, as well as joint concerts with Marlon Williams, Rhonda, L.A. Salami and Wyvern Lingo.

Although strongly influenced by the old blues legends and singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Aretha Franklin, Peter Green, and Terry Reid, Maxim Vaga is in no way stuck in the past. He also considers contemporary artists like Son Little, Lianne La Havas and The Black Keys to be of great inspiration.

Maxim Vaga performs solo as well as accompanied by his band. He is currently working on an EP that will be released early next year. His debut single ‘Don’t Let Her Go’ was released on August 30th 2019. His 2nd single ‘Farewell & Hello’ will be released on October 25th 2019.

DON’T LET HER GO | Debut Single | 30th August 2019

“Don’t Let Her Go” is a game of contrasts. The unity of opposites, their condition and inseparable affiliation - a central theme in Maxim Vagas songwriting, finds in "Don’t Let Her Go" a musical home between cinematic soul, alternative rock and psychedelic blues.

The song is a farewell journey of two lovers that takes us through the night and through the years.

In a similar style as in the dream world of a David Lynch movie, we switch between the emotional worlds of various protagonists’ perspectives.
